Best Practices for Designing a QR Code Landing Page

What is a QR code landing page?

A QR code landing page is the place users are directed to after scanning a QR code. Depending on the QR code type you choose, the landing page will look different. You can also choose to add different content for specific needs. Having a clear layout that states what type of content the user will receive is what’s most user friendly.

QR code marketing is done best when your content is direct, useful for the audience, adds value to physical products, provides educational information about a business, product, or service, and builds consumer trust and loyalty with consistency across other marketing channels. That’s why it’s important for your QR code landing page to stand out and be relevant to attract user engagement.

In this article, we’ll show you how to make a successful QR code landing page that will benefit you and your audience, along with some cool examples to get you inspired.

Types of QR code landing pages

Depending on your campaign, products, objectives, events, content, etc., you should think about what works best for you to keep content organized and what the best solution is for the person reading your landing page.

Here are some examples of QR code types that direct to QR code landing pages instead of a URL or PDF immediately. URLs, PDFs, and WiFi QR Codes link directly to the content.

However, the QR codes below have “QR code landing pages,” not to be confused with regular landing pages, which are just like the normal home page of a website. QR code landing pages give options. Let’s take a look below:

Multi Link QR Code – Creating a QR code for multiple links is essential for keeping customers engaged. You can add social media links, PDFs, external URLs, galleries of your work, calendar links for booking appointments, portfolio links, and more.

Types of QR code landing pages

GS1 Digital Link – Barcode QR Codes will replace traditional barcodes by 2027. The QR code landing page for this type lists the product title, and depending on if it’s a barcode for cosmetic products, a GS1 Digital Link for food products, or a 2D barcode for retail, different information will be listed. You can add a header, multiple links, recipes, tutorials, allergen information, warranty registration pages, etc.

vCard QR Code – Printing QR codes on business cards is the best way to share your contact information accurately and fast. No more exchanging numbers only to learn that you have mistyped something. Get new contacts’ social media handles quickly and with no fuss. Don’t confuse others with the same name again in Google searches. With a business card QR code, you actually don’t even need to print business cards, or don’t worry if you run out at an event. Save the QR code in your phone, and it will direct the person to your QR code landing page, which is your digital business card!

Tips about creating QR code landing pages

First, make sure that all of the links that are added route to mobile-optimized content. Scans happen in cell phones most of the time, and if the person can’t read the content instantly, they move on to something else.

Next, your call-to-action should tell people exactly what to expect when they scan. There aren’t a lot of characters available on the frame of the QR code, so make it count. Or, you can write a longer (yet still short) message on marketing materials that have the code printed on them instead of a frame. It should be interesting enough for them to scan, but short enough for it to be convenient. Something like, “Book an appointment” for a link to a stylist’s calendar or, “Get tickets here” for artists’ and musicians’ links to shows. Because QR code landing pages offer a lot of different types of content, you can start with the most exciting or useful offer, and the landing page will say it all.

Keep content concise and relevant. Don’t just add a bunch of links to the QR code landing page because you can. Scanning needs to add value, not be equivalent to clickbait. Because dynamic QR codes can be edited, you can add more content over time without reprinting the physical code. This is great for seasonal campaigns, new offers, new content, and updated external landing pages and calendars. It’s okay if your landing page is new and doesn’t have a whole linktree yet. It’s also better if you have enough content on it first before launching the code. Use your best judgement.

QR code tracking is a marketer’s best friend. Use A/B testing with patience and analyze the audience’s behavior beyond the metrics. Our QR code generator with tracking offers insights into the number of scans, cities where the code was scanned, on what devices, and at what time, and on what dates. You can also track how many clicks per link were given with QR codes that offer landing pages. Depending on your objectives, this information is telling. It does not offer users’ personal information. This is where your own further analysis comes into play. Maybe they followed your LinkedIn but not your YouTube channel. You can figure out what works best and add and delete links that are more important to you and your audience.

Your QR code design needs to catch the consumer’s eye. Are the colors contrasted so the QR code scans well? Does the landing page represent your company’s style and theme? Do your marketing materials look consistent across the board? You can customize QR codes and their landing pages in no time with our simple toolkit. It’s fun to use, and you don’t need to be a techie or designer to do it.

Before launching, it’s mandatory that you test your QR code landing page. And your QR code, in fact. There’s nothing worse than a code that won’t scan once it’s gone to print. Make sure it’s at least .8 x .8 in and has white space around it 4x the size of one of the pixels. It won’t scan on creases, strong curves, folds, or exceedingly shiny material. Test scan your QR code before and after printing one, not heaps. Next, test the landing page to make sure all your address, numbers, emails, URLs, and social channels are correct. Yes, you can edit them later, but it makes a strong first impression when everything’s done correctly beforehand. This is also why it’s beneficial to use dynamic vs. static QR codes in case there’s an error, on top of them being flexible forever.

QR code landing page examples

The extent of QR code landing pages can go much further than we discuss below, but we’ll just show you a few cases that would be useful in different industries to get your imagination going.

Create a QR code landing page for a Multi Link QR code for educational institutions. You can link schedules, maps, social event calendars, registration links, PDFs, and contact information, for entire schools, individual classes, or certain campuses.

QR codes for hotels and resorts can route to landing pages that offer spa menus, calendars to book spa service appointments, local event calendars and maps, ticket information for local shows, room service menus, and links to online ordering.

Use a vCard QR code landing page for real estate so you can link your social media pages that offer your latest listings. Print the QR code anywhere you would list your contact information to be seen in the public eye. Add links to a gallery of available properties. You can update the content at any time, making this the perfect way to connect in an ever-changing atmosphere.

Make a GS1 Digital Link for E-Commerce & D2C Brands and get creative based on your product. Add links to warranty registration, video tutorials about how to assemble or use items, product instruction manuals, links to surveys and feedback reviews, sign-ups for customer loyalty, ecommerce pages that promote repeat purchases, and more.
